Itinerary (Any start date
possible May - mid Oct)
We take you through
some of the prettiest scenery Austria has to offer, using routes that are
suitable for anyone in good health. The routes are mostly dedicated cycle
paths either tarmaced or gravel. With our wealth of local knowledge and endless suggestions for
days out, we promise a holiday experience second to none. The perfect combination of
sightseeing and cycling holiday in the beautiful Austrian Lakes and
Mountains.
Day 1. Transfer from Salzburg airport to Haus Rosenhof,
Ebensee, where you will greeted by your hosts for the first three days, Dave and Angie.
You will be introduced to this beautiful region and
given tourist information and maps. You will be fitted out with your bikes then have the opportunity to explore
the local area for yourselves.
Day 2. A scenic ride to the town of Gmunden. You will pass through the ancient lakeside village of Traunkirchen, then across rolling farm land and passing Schloss Ort, Traunsee's 'floating' castle before arriving at the charming lakeside town of Gmunden. After exploring
you return to Ebensee by boat. Option to take the boat both
ways. 25Km
Day 3. A stunning gentle ride following
the path of a mountain stream through woodland to the beautiful Lake of Langbathsee, often used as a backdrop in films and adverts. You will have the chance to swim or relax before returning to Ebensee.

Day 4. Today you will join your next hosts, Larry and Lisa in Obertraun. The route takes you into
the Imperial spa town of Bad Ischl where you can spend time discovering
culture, coffee & cakes or the therapeutic properties of the salt water spa.
Continue on to Obertraun alongside the magestic Lake
Halstatt, either by train or bike.

Day 5. Spend a relaxing day in the famous UNESCO World Heritage village of Hallstatt,
dating back some 7,000 years. Discover the rich history behind the oldest
continually inhabited village in
Europe.
The opportunity to visit the Oldest Salt Mine in the world
or cycle up through the Echerntal valley to discover the Glacier Gardens,
rock formations carved from glaciers. Alternatively take a cable car in
Obertraun to visit the
world famous Dachstein Mountain Ice Caves.
Day 6.
Today takes you along the picturesque Lake Hallstatt by boat, train or bike to Bad Goisern and a circular route climbing up
one side of
the valley, whilst taking in the beautiful contrasting landscape of forest and mountain meadows and
pass by one of the oldest working wooden dams in Austria. 22-37km
Day 7. Moving
on to Bad Mitterndorf where you will meet your host Paul and
his team. This mornings ride follows the tranquil Koppen valley path to the chic spa town of Bad Aussee. The main square of Bad Aussee has a mix of Gothic and Renaissance buildings, which act as an impressive backdrop for the
many cultural activities in this charming Styrian town. When you have finished exploring continue the ride to
Bad Mitterndorf.
This journey can be broken up by train. 25Km
Day 8. Take
a beautiful path through alpine meadows to a forest with a small hidden
lake, the perfect destination for your picnic lunch. Take a dip in the warm
crystal clear water or continue on the circular route back to Bad
Mitterndorf. Possibility to extend route.
25-35Km
Day 9. A
steady climb of 400m over 10km rewards you with magnificent views before the
500m cycle down to the beautiful lake Grundlesee. Here you can take a
boat trip to visit the 3 lakes, before continuing around the lake either
back to Bad Aussee to pick up the train or take the path through the quiet
rolling meadows to Bad Mitterndorf. 40km(max)
Day 10. After breakfast we return you to Salzburg airport where we say "Auf Wiedersehen."
We may have to alter this itinerary in response to local conditions.
Our bikes are mid range, mostly
with shimano deor 27 gears, aluminium frames and no more than three years old.
We also provide bike helmets and day packs. The price
per person is based on two adults sharing a double room. It is also possible to add extra
days to your
holiday.
