The routes take you through
some of the prettiest scenery Austria has to offer, suitable for anyone in good health. The routes are mostly dedicated cycle
paths either tarmac or compacted gravel. We have personally explored all the
recommended routes. The perfect combination of
sightseeing and cycling holiday in the beautiful Austrian Lakes and
Mountains.
Day 1. You will be
met at Salzburg and transferred to Haus Hepi, Obertraun, Lake Hallstatt
where you will greeted by your hosts for the first three nights, Larry and
Lisa Hepi.
You will be fitted with your bikes and given an introduction to the local
area before exploring the lakes and mountains on your doorstep.
Day 2. Destination
Ausseerland. Riding through a forested, mountain pass you will reach the
traditional small town of Bad Aussee where the locals wear their
traditional costume of Dirndls and Lederhosen as they go about their daily
lives. Ride onto the
beautiful Lake Grundlsee. Here you can take a boat trip to visit the
three lakes and discover the interesting history from World War II surrounding
these lakes. Head back to Bad Aussee to pick up a train or take the alpine
road back to Obertraun. 40km (Option to reduce with short train ride)
Day 3. Spend a day
exploring the famous UNESCO World Heritage village of Hallstatt,
dating back some 7,000 years. Discover the rich history behind the
oldest, continuously inhabited village in Europe, not to mention the most
photographed. You will have the opportunity to visit the oldest salt mine
in the world, Charnel House or Museum, Boat trip.
Day 4. Head
back over to Ausseerland today, destination Lake Oedensee, a high
moorland lake nestled amongst a tranquil mountain forest. Take a dip in this
pure mountain water idyll. Take in the typical Austrian scenes of rolling
meadows with a backdrop of the majestic mountains.

Day 5. Have a day
out of the saddle today and take the cable car up to 2100m to the
Krippenstein mountain and take in views across to the glaciers nestled
in the peaks of the Dachstein range. Walk round to the five finger
viewpoint platform and prepare for a breathtaking birds eye view of the
surrounding lakes and mountains. Visit the famous Giant Ice Caves
deep inside the limestone mountain.
Day 6. Today you will join your next hosts,
at Haus Rosenhof in Ebensee, Traunsee. The route takes you along the
eastern shore of Lake Hallstatt, a favourite ride for most of our guests, into
the Imperial spa town of Bad Ischl. Spend time discovering why
Kaiser Franz Joseph chose Bad Ischl as his summer residence. Pause for coffee & cakes
at Cafe Zauner or choose to relax in the therapeutic properties of the salt water spa.
Continue on to Ebensee, either by train or bike.

Day 7. Take the loggers path, enjoy the heady smell of the pine
as you cycle through the forest onto Lake Offensee. If the weather is
kind pause for a swim or continue onto the Rindbach waterfall. 20km
Day 8. A scenic ride to the town of
Gmunden. You will pass through the ancient lakeside village of Traunkirchen, then across rolling farm land and passing Schloss Ort, Traunsee's 'floating' castle before arriving at the charming lakeside town of Gmunden. After exploring
you can return to Ebensee by boat. Option to take the boat both
ways. 25Km
Day
9. Cycle to
the old pilgrimage village of St Wolfgang on Lake Wolfgang, passing through
"The Sound of Music" countryside. Take the boat over to St Gilgen and visit
the house lived in by Mozart's mother. 60km (Option to reduce by train
or bus)
Day 10. A stunning ride
gradually climbing uphill to a small mountain oasis, Lake Langbathsee, often used as a backdrop in films and adverts. You will have the chance to swim or relax before returning to Ebensee.

Day 11. Return
transfer.
We may have to alter this itinerary in response to local conditions.
Our bikes are mid range, mostly
with shimano deore 27 gears with aluminium frames.
We also provide bike helmets and day packs. Prices based on two
sharing a double room. The price of the holiday does not include public transport, entrance fees or insurances.
Extra nights cost 75 Euros per person (excluding bike hire).
